Shop Local Shop Arizona: Indie Week Returns June 29–July 7
If you've ever walked past a neighborhood shop and thought, I should really go in there sometime, Independents Week is your nudge.
Local First Arizona is bringing back its annual statewide campaign from June 29 through July 7, 2026, shining a nine-day spotlight on the independent businesses that form the backbone of Arizona's economy. From Flagstaff to Tucson, Phoenix to small Tribal communities, the campaign is a reminder that the places that make Arizona feel like Arizona, the taco spot your family has been going to for years, the mechanic who still remembers your name, are worth celebrating, and worth choosing.
This year's campaign leans into Local First Arizona's business directory as a discovery tool. The free, searchable database at localfirstaz.com/directory lists certified local independents across every sector: food, services, retail, finance, and more. Think of it as a cheat code for finding businesses that are already part of your community's fabric, ones you may not have known were there.
"Supporting local businesses is one of the most direct ways Arizonans can invest in each other," said Kimber Lanning, founder and CEO of Local First Arizona. "Independents Week is about making the breadth of that community visible and making it easy for people to find and celebrate the businesses already doing the work in their own backyard."
The economics back it up. Dollars spent at locally owned businesses recirculate within the community, sustaining local jobs and funding the culture that gives each Arizona city, town and Tribal community its distinct character. Every receipt from a local shop is, in a small way, a vote for the kind of place you want to live in.
During the week, Local First Arizona is encouraging Arizonans to take the celebration online. Posts tagged #IndieWeekAZ and #LocalFirstAZ will be reshared by the organization throughout the campaign, amplifying local businesses to audiences actively looking for independent alternatives.
